Alcoholism and body odorIt is the wine that soothes a broken heart, it is the over-dose that breaks the heart again causing nauseating body odor. The common smell of alcohol is present on the breath after drinking. If the liver is sluggish the rate of alcohol metabolism can be slow and this odor will be present longer in breath.
Malignant liver disease is associated with a sweet odor called “fetor hepaticas.” The body odor related with liver has no other connection besides taking large amount of alcohol. The consumer of alcohol may have no other organic problems yet he has to suffer much owing to taking alcohol bottles after bottles. The alcohol, after taking, goes straight in the liver and is distributed to all parts of the body. The solubility of alcohol in water is less. Hence the decomposition rate is slow. It is known to all that in the liver there is hydrochloric acid that helps in digestion. When the in taking of alcohol crosses the limit the digestive system can not cope with it. When it comes in contact with hydrochloric acid and oxygen it is oxidized and converted into some compounds. Again these compounds come out through the pores of the skin and smell pungent. The odor not only comes from the body but also from the breath. Hence it is a matter of great concern that when ever a drunken man utters something a foul smell comes out and causes disturbances to others standing nearby. Now the debacle comes.
